Fuhr 856 Type 4 Multipoint Door Lock – Lift Lever Operation with 4 Hooks, Latch & Deadbolt
Product Information
The Fuhr 856 Lift Lever Multipoint Door Lock is a high-security locking system featuring 4 hooks, 1 latch, and 1 deadbolt. Designed for use on uPVC, timber, aluminium, and composite doors, it provides reliable multi-point locking through a lift lever operation.
This model is part of Fuhr’s versatile 856 series, commonly installed on uPVC doors but fully compatible with a range of door materials. It features a solid 8mm single spindle and a lever-operated mechanism that engages all locking points when the handle is lifted and secured with a key turn.
Fuhr multipoint locks are built on a common platform, with differences only in the configuration and location of locking components like hooks and rollers. Identification is straightforward thanks to a distinctive triangular marking at the top of the gearbox, next to the top fixing screw. Most locks are also stamped with the Fuhr name on the faceplate.
The gearbox includes a 20mm deadbolt throw for standard sizes, with 14mm throw on 25mm and 30mm backsets. Gearbox dimensions are 220mm in height by 18mm in width. Both the latch and deadbolt are 31mm high, with 61mm between them. Fixing screw distances are 91mm from top to middle, and 108mm from middle to bottom.
Lock Operation: Lift Lever
- To lock the door: Lift the handle to engage the hooks and deadbolt, then turn the key to lock.
- To unlock the door: Turn the key to unlock, then push the handle down to retract the locking points and latch.
Hooks are 135.5mm x 40mm x 15mm in size with a 20mm throw and all throw upwards, unlike some other brands that use bi-directional hooks.
Each lock includes a pre-installed ball bearing and spring for improved locking feedback and smoother handle operation. Beware of replacement gearboxes lacking these parts; all replacement Fuhr gearboxes supplied by us come fully assembled with these components.
Important Compatibility Notes
The Fuhr 856 is sometimes used in bifold systems, such as those made with Smarts Aluminium profiles. However, some 30mm backset versions may not be interchangeable with standard Fuhr gearboxes. Also, older locks may feature a 28mm latch height, compared to the 33mm on newer models. If undamaged, the old latch can often be reused in a new gearbox.
We stock a full range of compatible Fuhr accessories including spindles, handles, keeps, and replacement gearboxes.
Latch Reversal Instructions
To reverse the latch, undo the screw on the side of the lock case next to the latch. Remove the latch, flip it, reinsert it, and replace the screw. This lock is non-handed, meaning it can be fitted on either side of the door.
