Fuhr 859 Type 4 Multipoint Door Lock with Latch, Deadbolt, and 2 Hooks – Split Spindle, 16mm Faceplate (Top Hook to Spindle: 730mm)
Fuhr 859 Type 4 Multipoint Door Lock with Latch, Deadbolt, and 2 Hooks – Split Spindle, 16mm Faceplate (Top Hook to Spindle: 730mm)
The Fuhr 859 Split Spindle multipoint door lock features 2 hooks, 1 deadbolt, and 1 latch.
This 859 series lock uses a split spindle mechanism and includes 2 hooks for enhanced security. Please note that this lock does not have serrations to accommodate shootbolts.
Fuhr 859 multipoint locks are suitable for all door types, including uPVC, aluminium, timber, and composite doors. While they share the split spindle function with the equivalent 856 and 855 models, the 859 differs primarily in this feature.
All Fuhr UPVC door locks start from a common platform. Variations exist mainly in the placement of hooks, rollers, and other locking points, but the core design remains consistent across versions.
Identifying a Fuhr lock is easiest once removed from the door. The distinctive gearbox design is recognizable across models. Key differences include the 856 (lift lever), 859 (split spindle), and 855 (keywind) multipoint door lock gearboxes. Most Fuhr locks have the brand name stamped on the faceplate, and a reliable identification feature is the triangular shape near the top fixing screw on the gearbox faceplate.
The Fuhr multipoint lock gearbox has a deadbolt throw of 20mm, except on 25mm and 30mm backset models where it throws 14mm. The gearbox dimensions are approximately 220mm in height by its width plus 18mm. Both latch and deadbolt measure 31mm in height, with 61mm spacing between the latch bottom and deadbolt top. Gearboxes attach to faceplates using 3 screws, spaced 91mm between top and middle screws, and 108mm between middle and bottom screws.
Each Fuhr lock comes pre-fitted with a ball bearing and spring, providing a smooth and positive locking feel when operating the handle. This ball bearing engages with a notch on the sliding internal strip under spring tension. Replacement gearboxes sold by Duffells include these pre-fitted components for direct swaps, unlike some aftermarket options.
When replacing a Fuhr multipoint lock or gearbox, check the latch height carefully. Older versions have a 28mm latch, while newer ones are 33mm. If the original latch is undamaged, it can be transferred to the new gearbox by loosening the allen key bolt.
Note that 30mm backset gearboxes fitted to bifold doors—especially Smarts Aluminium doors—do not interchange with standard 856 gearboxes.
Fuhr hooks have a 20mm throw and come in a hook case measuring 135.5mm high by 40mm wide by 15mm thick. The hooks on Fuhr locks typically throw upwards, unlike some brands that use bi-directional hooks.
