Fuhr 856 Lift Lever Multipoint Door Lock

The Fuhr 856 Lift Lever multipoint door lock is a high-security locking system designed with 4 rollers, 1 latch, and 1 deadbolt. It provides robust performance and is most commonly installed on uPVC doors, though it is also suitable for aluminium and other door materials.

This Fuhr 856 series lock features a solid 8mm single spindle and lift lever operation (also known as lever-operated). To engage the locking points, the handle must be lifted before turning the key to secure the door.

Versatile Design Across Door Types

The Fuhr 856 lock is part of a modular platform. While faceplate lengths and roller/hook positions may vary, the core gearbox remains consistent across different versions. This flexibility makes it a trusted solution for many door configurations.

Easy Identification

Identifying a Fuhr multipoint lock is easier once removed from the door. The gearbox has a distinct triangular top above the top fixing screw and often has “Fuhr” stamped on the faceplate. While visually similar, there are subtle differences between the Fuhr 856 (lift lever), Fuhr 859 (split spindle), and Fuhr 855 (key wind) gearboxes.

Advanced Locking Performance

Each Fuhr 856 lock gearbox includes a factory-fitted ball bearing and spring mechanism. This feature engages with a notch on the internal strip to provide a smooth, secure locking feel. Some aftermarket gearboxes lack this enhancement, but all Fuhr replacements from Duffells include the spring and bearing pre-fitted for seamless replacements.

Compatibility Notes

When replacing an older Fuhr lock, you may notice latch height variations. Earlier models used a 28mm latch, while newer gearboxes use a 33mm latch. If your old latch isn’t damaged, it can be swapped into the new gearbox using the Allen screw.

Note: Some 30mm backset gearboxes are designed specifically for bifold doors (especially Smarts Aluminium systems) and are not interchangeable with standard 856 locks.
