GU Europa Multipoint Door Lock – Latch, Deadbolt, 2 Tongue Hooks, Lift Lever Operation

The GU Europa Multipoint Door Lock is a high-security locking system designed for uPVC, aluminium, timber, and composite doors. This version features 2 slim tongue hooks, 1 deadbolt, and 1 latch, providing enhanced protection and durability for both residential and commercial applications.

Part of the renowned GU Secury range, the "Europa" series includes both lift lever and split spindle nightlatch variants. These locks are ideal for new installations or replacements where a reliable multipoint locking system is essential. Though often referred to as “GU Ferco” due to historic branding, Duffells classifies these using modern terminology—“GU” for 92mm PZ locks and “Ferco” for older 70mm PZ versions.

Identifying and Replacing a GU Multipoint Lock

Most GU faceplates are stamped with the GU logo, making them easy to identify. If you're repairing an older door, be aware that GU transitioned from old to new style gearboxes over a decade ago. Old style gearboxes have a cut-out top corner, while new style gearboxes feature a vertical groove. These gearboxes are not interchangeable, so it’s important to choose the correct version.

In some cases, only the gearbox may need replacing. However, if you require split spindle operation, a complete lock replacement is necessary. While most locking points will align with your existing door, some adjustments—especially to the centre latch and deadbolt keeps—may be required.

Note that older GU deadbolts are thinner than the new models. If upgrading, we recommend also replacing the keeps to accommodate the thicker deadbolts for enhanced security.

Locking Point Options and Features

  • Hooks (SH System): Available as slim tongue hooks or traditional rhino-style hooks for enhanced resistance to forced entry.
  • Deadbolts (MR System): Chamfered design for improved compression and smoother door closure.
  • Upward Engagement: All hooks and bolts lock upwards when the handle is lifted.

Operation: Lift Lever

To Lock: Lift the handle to engage the locking points, then turn the key to secure the door.

To Unlock: Turn the key to release the deadbolt, then push the handle down to disengage the locking points and retract the latch.
