ERA Multipoint Door Lock – Split Spindle with 2 Large Hooks, Latch & Deadbolt (730mm Top Hook to Spindle)

The ERA Deadbolt multipoint door lock is a reliable and secure locking system commonly used on uPVC, aluminium, timber, and composite doors. This model features 2 bi-directional hooks, 1 central deadbolt, and 1 latch, making it ideal for enhancing both security and weather performance.

Key Features and Identification Tips

ERA multipoint locks are among the most popular in the UK. While some are stamped with the ERA logo, many are rebranded by manufacturers such as Saracen, Surelock, Spartan, Duraflex, Supa, Westward, and Cego. Despite the branding, these locks share common design elements.

A key identifier is the snib on the faceplate—typically grey for deadbolt/hook locks and blue for Vectis models. Some brands may use black or green snibs.

ERA locks were once referred to as Saracen, from the era when Laird produced these locks before rebranding to ERA.

Gearbox Design and Compatibility

ERA gearboxes are known for their square design without corner cut-outs. The gearbox height is 221mm, and the width is the backset measurement plus 18mm. Backsets are available in 30mm, 35mm, or 45mm.

Gearboxes are compatible across most ERA systems (excluding the British Standard Fortress and SureFire models), allowing easy switching between deadbolt, hook bolt, and Vectis mechanisms. Custom builds are available for unique configurations.

Hook and Deadbolt Options

  • Standard slim hook: Compact and ideal for tight routing in replacements.
  • Security steel hook: Larger case for increased strength and durability.

Hooks are bi-directional: top hooks throw upward, bottom hooks throw downward.

The deadbolt (also known as a linear bolt) features an 18mm chamfered throw, pulling the door tightly against the frame. Commonly used on timber and composite doors.

Operation: Split Spindle

To lock:

  • Lift the handle to engage hooks and latch.
  • Turn the key to engage the deadbolt and secure the system.

To unlock:

  • Turn the key to disengage the deadbolt.
  • Push the handle down to retract hooks, latch, and open the door.

  • Corrosion resistance: BS EN 1670:2007 Grade 4 (240 hours)
  • Endurance tested to 50,000 cycles
  • Designed to meet PAS24:2012 requirements
